VESPERS

The After-Dinner Communion

"Vespers" is a contemplative composition that bridges sensuality and ritual through a refined interplay of form, light, and symbolic contrast. The monochrome body, rendered with porcelain-like softness, becomes a sculptural presence suspended in silence, while the single accent of deep red introduces a quiet disruption — a gesture that evokes both indulgence and devotion.

The positioning of the figure, withdrawn yet composed, suggests a private ceremony rather than a display. The glass, delicately balanced, becomes an extension of the body itself, blurring the boundary between object and subject. Through controlled lighting and disciplined minimalism, the work transcends its physical elements, offering a meditation on solitude, desire, and the sacred intimacy of fleeting moments.

Behind the Image

VESPERS — The Photographer's Statement

AP of "Vespers" — Amalfi panel "Vespers" AP by Alex Manfredini

"Vespers came from a place of stillness.

I was interested in that quiet moment at the end of the day — not dramatic, not loud, but deeply personal. A space where the body is no longer performing, only existing. The composition is restrained on purpose; everything unnecessary is removed so that what remains feels intentional, almost ceremonial.

The wine is the only color because it is the only interruption. It represents indulgence, yes, but also presence — a reminder that even in solitude, there is a ritual of being alive. The body does not reach for it; it simply holds it, as if acknowledging the moment rather than consuming it.

This image is not about seduction. It is about awareness — the kind that happens in silence, when nothing is demanded and nothing needs to be explained."

Handmade Amalfi cotton paper production — artisan filtering cotton pulp on a wooden screen

Amalfi Mat

Handmade Cotton Paper — A Medieval Tradition for Art

The magic behind handmade paper lies in the uniqueness of every single sheet. A centuries-old tradition kept alive by small, family-driven paper mills producing this limited-edition medium. The deckled edges of Amalfi paper are formed through ancient procedures: cotton pulp is filtered and spread on a wooden screen, manually, sheet by sheet — an art dating back to the 13th century. Each sheet becomes a singular frame that elevates Alex Manfredini's photographs with quiet, irreplaceable elegance.
